Privacy Policy
DroneFly is a free safe-to-fly checker for drone pilots. It is designed to collect as little as possible. There are no accounts, no advertising, and no tracking or analytics for advertising purposes. This policy explains the data the app uses and why.
Your location
To show conditions where you are flying, the app needs a location. You can allow your device location or type a place or postcode. Your coordinates are sent to the weather and airspace providers listed below to fetch local data. Saved and recent locations are stored on your own device.
Fly alerts (optional)
If you turn on fly alerts, the app sends the following to our notification service so it can check conditions in the background and notify you:
- a push notification token for your device,
- the location you want alerts for, and your drone profile and alert preferences.
This is used only to send the alerts you asked for. It is not used for advertising and is not sold. If you turn alerts off, your record is deleted, and dead tokens are removed automatically. Alerts are optional, the rest of the app works without them.
What we do not do
- No account or sign-in.
- No advertising and no ad tracking.
- We do not sell or share your data with data brokers.
Third-party services
The app fetches data directly from these providers, which receive the location being checked, subject to their own privacy terms:
Open-Meteo (weather & air quality), NOAA SWPC (Kp index), OpenAIP (airspace), OpenSky Network (aircraft traffic), OpenStreetMap Nominatim (place search). Alerts are delivered via Apple Push Notification service. Hosting and the notification service run on Cloudflare.
Data retention
Location and drone preferences live on your device. If you use alerts, your notification record is kept only while alerts are enabled and is deleted when you turn them off or uninstall the app.
Children
DroneFly is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children.
